Day 1: Skardu to Deosai Plains
You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Skardu around 7:00 AM. The road out of the city is fine for the first stretch, but it gets rough once you’re past Sadpara Lake, so we build in extra time rather than promise a fixed arrival hour. Depending on whether you go via the Sadpara or Chilam Chowki route, the drive to the plains runs 2.5 to 3.5 hours.
Most groups stop at Sadpara Lake for tea and a short walk before continuing up. Once you’re on the plains themselves, the landscape changes fast, flat grassland stretching out with the Deosai range in the background. If it’s June or July, you’ll likely see the wildflowers that give the plains their color that time of year.
Lunch is usually at Bara Pani, either packed or arranged with a local setup depending on your package. From there it’s on to Sheosar Lake, one of the highest freshwater lakes in the region. We leave a couple of hours here rather than a quick stop, since it’s the part of the trip most people remember. Camp is set up nearby for the night, or you’re transferred to a guesthouse if that’s what you booked.
Day 2: Wildlife Watch and Return
